G Gathering Walks commemorate historic event

Walks commemorate historic event

Walks commemorating the 70th Anniversary of the Bataan March of World War II were recently held at the Dismal Swamp Canal Trail in Chesapeake. The event was to honor and remember the 90,000 U.S. and Filipino Servicemen who suffered and endured one of the most harrowing events in history. The Bataan Death March Memorial Walk was open to all and participation was free. After the walks, there was an opportunity to donate to Mountain Eagles and Answering the Cry of the Poor, two non-profit charities that help poor Filipino children and wounded warriors. There were three scheduled walks; the longest of which was 16.6 miles to the North Carolina border and back.
